The Riton Optics 2020 Veteran’s Hunt provided one deserving Veteran, Jamie, with a once-in-a-lifetime Barbary Sheep hunt, along with Helicopter Coyote Hunting and a prize package consisting of a Mossberg Rifle and our Optics. Jamie joined Riton Optics Veteran Founder and CEO, Brady Speth, as well as The Military Arms Channel Veteran Founder and Host, Tim Harmsen, and Hero Hunt’s Veteran Founder, Joe Towers for this amazing experience at the Flying W Ranch in Sierra Blanca, Texas.
My name is Jamie. I am a military veteran retired in November of 2018. After 31 and a half years in the US Army. The initial call that you that you made and my wife handed me the phone was, I still thought after we hung up, it might have been a prank call. I’ve got some pretty, pretty funny friends that I’ve made over the years. And I thought for sure the call was coming that somebody’s going to say, gotcha, that didn’t come so. JOHN.

Hey, guys, Brady from Riton Optics. We’re here with Jamie. He’s the winner of our veteran hunt. We’re out here in Texas. Joe’s here from Hero Hunt. We got some goodies. So let’s get this party started before hunting. So Jamie, first off, we got Mossberg. They donated the 6.5 PRC. So that was yours to start. And of course, we had to bring the goodies from Riton Optics. So first one is an X5 Primal 3-18 . And we got some 10×42 binos, some harnesses and some rings. So we’ll get this all mounted up and then get zeroed in.

And then one of our sponsors for benchmade sent you out one of their new cricket river knives.
icing on the cake.

Yeah, so we’re happy to be out here in Sierra Blanca, Texas. Around nothing and perfect place to go hunting so let’s get these things mounted up and zeroed in.
The day of the hunt. If I were to sit back and describe what I would have wanted for a barberie sheep hunt, it would have been scripted pretty dang close to what happened that day. We got up early in the morning, as you would expect. jumped in an ATV with a 16 year old guide who came all the way out here from El Paso to to show us the mountains. We’re up on the mountain side at first light, suns just cresting up over the mountains. And with our binoculars we spotted three female sheep that were making their way along the mountain we got super excited, thinking that there would be more hidden amongst the rocks. And we waited there for about two hours, expecting more to come out and we just we just didn’t see him. So we decided to continue back to the ATVs and we drove around the mountainside most of the day. Looking for other herds of sheep and it was just, it’s pretty hot so I’m sure they laid up somewhere in the shade. Eventually, late afternoon we went back out with a different guide. He took us to a different location on the ranch. And we found a herd of I guess about 10 or 12 sheep on the mountainside a little over 1000 yards out. So we parked the ATV and started our stock and got within about 570 yards of the sheep. He decided that’s about as close as we’re going to get before we spook him. So that’s where we set up for the shot.
down he’s down Jamie, you smoked him, dude. smoked a big black line. Yes, you got him. You got him. Dude, he is down. He is done. Holy shit. You smoked ’em brother. man. Dude, I’m so happy for you, man. I’m so happy.
And the walk up the whole thing was supposed to be dude. hopping up into the hills. That is a great, great stock. That is a great wrap. Thank you, brother.
Yo, dude, you’re welcome, bro. I’m just so happy for you. You just showed me how it’s supposed to be done. I’m so happy for you. God that is a badass ram. That was a badass shot dude. I am so stoked. He’s done. He’s done.
It was incredible. Everything that everything you would hope to see and smell and feel was there. It’s the best environment the best people and got to put two shots into that animal and harvest it that day. It took us an hour and a half to move that 570 yards to recover it maybe another hour or so to get it back down the mountain.
I want to get a picture of you and I.
Incredible people incredible ranch and location and just an epic con something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.
