About Dan Small
Dan Small has been host/producer of Milwaukee Public Television’s OUTDOOR WISCONSIN since its premiere in November 1984. He also produces and hosts a weekly radio show, OUTDOORS RADIO WITH DAN SMALL, which airs on broadcast stations throughout Wisconsin and on numerous websites.

Dan is also contributing editor of WISCONSIN OUTDOOR NEWS, a bi-weekly newspaper that covers outdoor activities, environmental concerns and other items of interest to Wisconsin’s sportsmen and women, is the author of Fish Wisconsin and co-author of The Official Outdoor Wisconsin Cookbook and Wild Harvest Cookbook.
Most of all, Dan is an avid outdoorsman and a widely published writer/photographer with credits in both national and regional magazines. His writing and broadcast efforts have won more than 100 awards in regional and national competition. He was named Conservation Communicator of the Year in 1986 by the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, and in 1990 received the Gordon MacQuarrie Award for excellence in environmental communication from the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. He was honored twice as Outdoor Writer of the Year by the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, most recently in 2016. He holds a PhD from Rice University.

Increased Demand, Sales Growth Moves RITON Optics to New Location

For the second time in as many years, RITON optics has outgrown their facilities and is moving to a brand new location.
In the past 12 months Riton Optics has experienced rather remarkable growth. While other companies in the optics world are cutting back on their ad expenses, hunkering down for a perceived “slowdown” in the outdoor and firearm world, and even closing their doors forever, RITON can hardly keep products in stock.
It was only a short time ago that the company was started in a small office suite with two employees. Within two year’s time of selling product, the company has expanded into two additional, connected suites and a large shipping and warehouse area. With the addition of operations, marketing and sales staff the company has quickly outgrown their space AGAIN.
Company CEO, Brady Speth, believes in “controlled” growth.

“Our goal is to grow the company while keeping high quality optics and high-end customer service as the core of the business.”
RITON grew their team in time for the 2018 SHOT Show, adding a full time operations manager, a national sales manager, contracting with Ace Luciano for strategic initiatives and public relations, and adding Calley Carpenter as the new Director of Marketing.

The new team has already produced great things.

In the last several months, the company has made a concerted effort to get their products in dealer shops around the United States- more than tripling the number of dealers in the past year. According to RITON’s Director of Sales, Todd Neice, “It’s important for us to make sure that our customers have easy access to the product. Once they pick it up, see the clarity of the glass and the quality of the optic, we know that they will become a valued customer.

At RITON, we are pushing the limits in every facet of our sales. For example, we are upping the lifetime warranty game by covering all electronics and have implemented a 48 hour turn around for any product that hits the warranty department.”

Another reason RITON has grown so quickly is the extremely favorable business terms for their dealer base. Neice explains, “Dealers across the country are realizing that we are the perfect fit for their business. We offer a tiered program that doesn’t segregate any dealer, so no matter how large or how small, we have a program that fits their needs. We back it up with regional rep customer service and dealer employee training. For our dealers, we work off of a “gross profit”-not “mark up” model. This is a very big advantage for them. Most of the competition work off of “mark up”- which can mean less profit per item for the dealer.”

The movement to create nationwide access to the product line is working and the growth is evident. The company’s recent expansion has allowed them to take on the additional staff and inventory necessary to meet customer needs. It is also likely that with the trending sales, the company will continue to make additions to their team.

Riton Optics Announces Calley Carpenter as the Director of Marketing.

In the face of it’s unprecedented growth in the already crowded optics marketplace, Riton Optics has been scouring the industry in search of key personnel to build their team. With a focus on values, outdoors and support for first responders and military personnel, Riton found the perfect fit with their new Director of Marketing addition, Calley Carpenter.

As a young child Calley was introduced to shooting through the NRA youth shooting programs where she shot competitively for several years. Her love for the outdoors extended to hunting, hiking, camping and archery as she grew older. “Some of the greatest memories that I have with my dad are of us hunting together. Those are memories that I will never forget.”

In addition to growing up as an outdoorswoman and an avid 2A supporter, Calley came from a long line of family owned businesses that supported first responder and military personnel through the manufacture of firearms and defense articles. Calley stated that it was important to transition to a business that operates with the highest set of values and support for service personnel because of her unrelenting passion for those who serve. As the wife to a local police officer, she also knows all too well the joys and pains of being an LE wife. “I am so proud of my husband and those that serve with him. “I am excited to be a part of a team that so strongly believes in supporting law enforcement.”
