A Cyclops visited us!
Cyclops Joe Rhea that is. Let me start by saying that the YouTuber super star Joe is as good a guy as they come! After stopping by to meet my family we get to playing all the Riton goodies… Red dots, Pistol red dots, Magnified optics. We were like two kids in the optics candy shop!
Now down to the shooting!
After an hour drive into the beautiful Utah west dessert, we arrive at THE SPOT. Charlie Melton and I have been shooting at this spot for a while with our Utah based Riton Long Rang Shooting Team. I have had impacts as far as 3865 Yards here and Charlie has been out shooing to 6500 yards!!! Needless to say, we have the room to send some long ones. I was excited to show Joe the 7 Conquer 3-24×56 and its features and capabilities.
Time to zero! We do a quick bore sight in process at 100 yards and set our R7 Zero stops and its time to send it! Being that I’ve been here before and know my DOPE (data on previous engagements) I decided to go right to 1000 yards with the 300WM… IMPACT! The 7 Conquer 3-24×56 performed flawlessly as usual (check out Snipers Hide Review). After a group at 1000 yards that you’d probably call BS on, I got Joe on the rifle. He was blown away by the ODEN reticle we designed. It’s a very versatile reticle… But why? Oh, funny you should ask.
First let’s identify some inherent issues with a high power First Focal Plane optic. The reticle in FFP optics grows and shrinks and grows as you dial up and down the magnification. As the power gets dialed up and the target looks bigger, the reticle also grows and looks bigger. This is awesome but you will see that the reticle is hard to see on low power… Unless you have the ODEN reticle where there is an aiming post on low power but its skeletonized so on high power it doesn’t block your view.
It was only a couple hours of shooting with a good buddy, but we had a great time. Please check out Cyclops Joe Rheas YouTube documentary on the trip.
