In the world of optics, there are plenty of high-dollar options that promise top-tier performance. And while many of them deliver, the reality is that most private citizens, law enforcement agencies, and even government entities outside of the federal system don’t have the luxury of an unlimited budget. Finding an optic that is not only duty-capable but also provides real advantages in critical moments—while still being financially obtainable—is a challenge. That’s why I set out to put the Riton 5 Tactix 1-10×24 LPVO to the test.
For the last two years, I have personally used this optic in real-world active threat environments, intensive scenario-based training, and live-fire range testing. My approach has been simple: strip away the marketing and let the performance speak for itself. I wanted to see if this optic could truly hold up to the demands of professionals who rely on their gear to perform when it matters most.
There are other optics on the market that offer similar solutions, but what sets the 5 Tactix 1-10×24 apart is that it delivers these capabilities at a price point that makes it a viable option for the agencies, officers, and responsible citizens who need it most. After rigorous testing, I’ve developed my opinion—this optic isn’t just a contender, but a top choice for those seeking a reliable, high-performance LPVO that doesn’t break the bank.
Now, let’s take a closer look at why.
Mission-Driven LPVO
The Riton 5 Tactix 1-10×24 LPVO has been tested and proven in real-world law enforcement and tactical operations over the past two years, developed with direct input from the professionals who rely on it. This optic isn’t just another LPVO—it has been validated in high-stakes environments by operators who depend on their gear to perform when lives are on the line.
During my two-year evaluation in training and active law enforcement operations, this optic has consistently delivered solutions critical to high-stress, high-threat situations. While other optics offer similar capabilities, they are often priced beyond the reach of local and state agencies working within strict budget constraints. Tactical teams and snipers from various law enforcement agencies, including ones which I am directly involved with, have adopted this optic, replacing outdated solutions with an option that provides advanced performance at nearly half the cost of competing models.

Reports from the field consistently praise the added capability to their teams’ operations through reliability, optical clarity, and versatility across engagements ranging from close-quarters battle (CQB) to long-range precision shots and positive identification. After extensive personal use, I have little reason to argue otherwise—Riton got this one right.
Optical Performance and Clarity: Seeing Is Surviving
In any tactical scenario, whether law enforcement, self-defense, or military operations, positive identification (PID) is paramount. The legal ramifications of misidentification in a use-of-force incident can be life-altering. In the U.S., law enforcement officers and armed citizens must be absolutely certain of their target and what lies beyond before engaging. The ability to dial up to 10x magnification, paired with pristine optical clarity, provides operators with the ability to discern crucial details in high-pressure situations. Identifying a weapon in a suspect’s hands, distinguishing between a threat and a non-threat, or reading facial expressions and body language at a distance can mean the difference between a justified use of force and a tragic mistake.
The Riton 5 Tactix ensures that, even in less-than-ideal lighting conditions, the operator has the visual acuity needed to make rapid, lawful, and life-saving decisions. This played out the most for me while running scenario based active killer response training in schools. Being able to clearly view a hallway in contrasting lighting (ambient light from outside through windows, LED’s, and fluorescent lights all fighting for the same space create nasty shadows and visual anomalies) allowed me to make on the spot decisions that gave my team a tactical advantage against the threat increasing our speed of movement to the threat, allowing me to positively identify the threat in an instant from a safe distance behind cover, and ultimately being able to engage that threat from a distance that a handgun or red dot would not be able to accomplish, stopping the threat and preventing loss of innocent life. A primary real-world example of this can be viewed in the body camera footage of the recent school shooting in Nashville where the team of officers instructed the officer equipped with an LPVO to make his way to the front to accomplish all of the above, and they were successful in immediately stopping the threat! Great work to those professionals and thank you for the due diligence in your preparation for such an event! This is how we save lives!
Rugged Reliability and Duty-Ready Design
Designed to endure the harshest conditions, the Riton 5 Tactix 1-10×24 is built with 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum and is impact-tested up to 1,200 Gs. This level of durability ensures that whether it’s mounted on a police marksman’s rifle or a citizen’s home defense setup, the optic will hold zero and maintain peak performance under stress.
The optic features a robust turret system, allowing precise adjustments with repeatable tracking and a reliable return to zero. However, in high-threat situations, dialing the turret may not be a luxury one can afford. In my experience, other than in testing the function of the turrets and zeroing, I rarely used the dialing feature of the 5 Tactix 1-10×24. The reticle’s intricate design—developed with direct law enforcement and military feedback—ensures that critical ballistic data is immediately available within the sight picture. Whether engaging at extended distances or making rapid corrections for wind and movement, having holdovers and windage adjustments integrated into the reticle means officers, security professionals, and armed citizens can act without hesitation.
For me, this was the greatest feature of this optic and the one I found the most useful. The reticle is packed with information but also clean enough to still guarantee PID even under intense stress. In life-or-death scenarios, where fractions of a second determine outcomes, the ability to immediately apply elevation and windage holds without adjusting turrets can be the difference between neutralizing a threat and incurring further danger, injuries, or loss of life. The concept holds true not just at extended ranges, but also at close quarters when using the reticle on 1x having solid reference points to be able to use at close distance allows for precise shots to be taken (think hostage rescue) rapidly and gives the officer the confidence to know that his aiming point is exact as opposed to a hold off technique that is common for a red dot application or other similar optics with a less thought-out reticle design. There is no guess work; if you know your rifle and know this reticle then every shot is a “surgical shot”.
Value? Performance Meets Affordability
In the competitive landscape of low-power variable optics (LPVOs), the Riton 5 Tactix 1-10×24 distinguishes itself not only through exceptional performance but also with its accessible pricing. With an MSRP of $960, it presents a compelling alternative to other options in the LPVO category—most positioned well above $1,500, with some reaching to $4,000. It truly makes the 5 Tactix stand out.
When evaluating the Riton 5 Tactix against the competitors, all of which are premium optics and excellent options to fit the role the 5 Tactix 1-10×24 seeks to fill in this regard, it becomes evident that Riton, although not the only solution available, delivers comparable features—such as a first focal plane illuminated reticle, robust construction, and clear optics—at a fraction of the cost. The most attractive feature to me and those like me is that affordability does not come at the expense of quality; the 5 Tactix has undergone rigorous testing and has proven its reliability and performance in both range settings and real-world duty operations.

For law enforcement agencies, security professionals, and civilians seeking a versatile and dependable LPVO without the premium price tag, the Riton 5 Tactix 1-10×24 presents an outstanding value proposition. It exemplifies that top-tier performance and durability can be achieved without necessitating a substantial financial investment.
For me, this is a critical component when assessing equipment options for my team. Most local and state agencies are restricted on budgets and the amount they are able to spend on things like optics. Typically, the cost of optics and accessories is left up to the individual officer to cover on their own dime. In the rare case where an agency does dish out the coin to outfit their people, they will find the best “mass value” deal available and rarely end up with the “best” solution, but simply the one that checks the most boxes for the least amount of money spent. In either of these situations, the 5 Tactix 1-10×24 provides one of the ONLY solutions that accomplishes both increased capability and affordable price to either the individual or agency that is acquiring it!
On the Range
Spending time with the Riton 5 Tactix 1-10×24 on the range provided an in-depth look at its real-world handling, performance, and overall usability in a variety of shooting scenarios. While no optic is perfect, this LPVO consistently delivered in ways that matter most when it comes to maneuverability, usability, and precision.
The size and weight of the 5 Tactix 1-10×24 place it comfortably in the same category as many other premium optics in this class. It’s not the smallest or lightest, but it’s also far from being the largest or heaviest. From my experience, it finds that perfect middle ground; it is substantial enough to instill confidence in its durability without being a burden on the rifle. Whether running it on a duty rifle or a personal defensive setup, the optic remains well-balanced and maneuverable without creating unnecessary fatigue or throwing off the rifle’s handling characteristics.
Usability is always a broad metric, but in live-fire scenarios, I found that the 5 Tactix 1-10×24 is incredibly easy to work with across multiple shooting positions and engagement styles. The eye box is forgiving throughout the majority of the magnification range, only becoming noticeably restrictive above 8x. That said, in training, I never dialed above 8x unless I was in a stable, supported position, meaning that limitation never hindered real-world effectiveness.
No matter the position—standing, kneeling, prone, or from unconventional barriers and inorganic positions, I was consistently able to gain a clear sight picture and effectively utilize the reticle without unnecessary adjustments or strain. The eye relief complements this, allowing for true 1x performance and maximizing the optic’s potential. While an LPVO will never match the raw speed of a red dot, the 3-post illuminated reticle made target acquisition exceptionally fast. In close-quarters drills, I was able to bracket targets rapidly and push my shot times within 0.5 to 1 second of my red dot performance on identical courses of fire. At distances beyond 30 yards, the advantage shifted entirely to the 5 Tactix 1-10×24, with measurable time gaps ranging from 5 to 10 seconds faster than red dots on the same drills at distances out to 100 yards.
Precision is where an optic like this truly proves its value. No rifle or optic is inherently precise. Precision is achieved through the shooter’s consistent application of the fundamentals. However, the 3OT reticle found in the 5 Tactix 1-10×24 makes consistent, repeatable accuracy almost effortless. The design allows for a fine aiming point that supports deliberate, controlled marksmanship, producing tighter groups on target than I typically see with a red dot, especially at extended ranges. Even when firing rapid strings at 100 yards, I could maintain positive identification of my target and focus on precise shot placement, whether that be an upper A-zone, the “credit card”, or another critical strike zone such as hostage rescue style targets, rather than settling for general “center mass” hits. The ability to engage with precision while maintaining full situational awareness is a game- changer, whether for professional duty use or defensive applications.

Ultimately, the range performance of the Riton 5 Tactix 1-10×24 places it firmly alongside the top-tier optics in this category and the value category far beyond it. Having this level of performance in an optic that remains financially attainable for law enforcement agencies, responsible armed citizens, and security professionals makes a real difference where it counts—on the range and in the real world.
Final Thoughts
The Riton 5 Tactix 1-10×24 LPVO is not just another optic—it’s a purpose-driven, purpose built, affordable, invaluable tool that has earned its place in the hands of professional protectors. With proven field performance, exceptional clarity, and an intuitive reticle designed for split-second decisions, it stands as one of the most versatile LPVOs available today. Whether you’re a law enforcement officer, security professional, or responsible citizen, this optic offers the reliability, precision, and durability necessary to perform when it matters most.
